NAHL product Austin Thielges commits to Arkansas

The Razorback Hockey team is pleased to announce that  Austin Thielges has formally signed to play at Arkansas.  A 5’8″ 175 lb defenseman from Frisco, Texas, Thielges last played for the NAHL Lone Star Brahmas.  In 45 games with the Brahmas, Thielges contributed 9 assists and racked up 14 penalty minutes.

Prior to his time with the Brahmas, Thielges completed two seasons with the Dallas Stars 16U program and more season with the 18U team.  In 74 games with the U16 team, Thielges scored 5 goals to go along with 12 assists.  During his time with the 18U roster, he potted 5 goals and added 26 assists.

Said Thielges, “[a]fter seeing the advancements the program has made, and communicating with players I know from the team, I decided it would be a good fit for me to continue my career at Arkansas. ”

Since 2009, the Arkansas hockey program has amassed an overall record of 161-48-4, including three trips to the Division III National Tournament and five SECHC conference playoff tournament championships.  The program will field two teams next season–one at the Division I level (WCHL) and one at the Division III level (SECHC).  The University of Arkansas was the first SEC school to field a Division I ACHA program and is currently the only SEC school with two hockey teams.
